Are NAIDs Hypoallergenic?
Are NAIDS Hypoallergenic?
The short answer is yes. NAIDS have a unique double coat and even though they love to swim and get dirty they are quick to dry and clean off. The hair and underlying dander does not seem to cause issues for allergy sufferers. We have had much success placing our dogs in homes where someone has allergies. This is another reason these dogs make great therapy dogs. It is also fun to have a large breed, amazing looking dog that doesn’t look like the typical hypoallergenic dog breeds.
With that being said, here’s the second part of the story. Being hypoallergenic doesn’t mean NAIDs don’t shed. They are seasonal shedders. You will usually see a heavy shedding in the spring and a lighter fall shed. This also depends a little on your climate. Other than that, you will probably notice much less hair around the house verses most other large breed, longer haired dogs.
The other issue, which is why we never guarantee any dog to be hypoallergenic, is it depends on what you are allergic to. While you may not have any issues with the hair or dander, the dogs saliva or urine might trigger a reaction. This can be more easily managed but could present an issue for some.
We are obviously big fans of the Native American Indian Dog and the fact that they rarely cause typical allergic reactions is just another reason the breed is so amazing.
